As your proponent, I am accountable for successfully bringing your idea to life.
What does it mean to be accountable?
Financial accounting is the measure of income and expense, the flow of money.
Accountability is the measure of the flow of the currency of my word, what I say and what I do.
Accountability is an equation I want to balance. I am in balance when my action, my being, matches my word.
I spend my word when I speak. I get to choose whether to squander my currency, or to invest it.
in·vest:
1. to use, give, or devote (time, talent, etc.), as for a purpose or to achieve something
2. to endow with a quality or characteristic
To invest my word, I must endow it with the quality of integrity.
When I don’t do what I say, when I’m out of integrity, I squander my currency and my word loses value. I pay penalties of loss of trust, credibility, and influence.
When I do what I say, I give my word integrity, my investment pays, and my word increases in value. I earn dividends of increased energy, creativity, and joy.
A promise is a debit. When I ‘keep my promises’, I retain the value of my word. When I don’t, I waste my currency and lose its value.
Being accountable, I purposefully balance my books. I measure and track what I say and what I do. I invest my word, keeping my promises, and add value to myself and others.
Being accountable as your proponent, I invest my word in your success. And, I hold our team accountable for performing with integrity. Together, we get it done when we say we will.
